“Strange Case of Origami Yoda”

by Tom Angleberger

A funny story about Dwight who is sort of an oddball. He folds up an origami Yoda finger puppet who then precedes to hand out advice to his fellow classmates. First book in a series. You don’t have to be a Star Wars fan to enjoy these books.

“Hatchet”

by Gary Paulsen

On his way to visit his father Brian is in a plane crash. As the only survivor he faces the Canadian Wilderness all alone. Armed with only a hatchet he learns how to survive on his own. My oldest son read this in class and loved it. Then he went to the library and borrowed all the Gary Paulsen books he could find!

“Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of NIHM”

Another oldie but goodie! I read this one when I was in school. Mrs. Frisby (a mouse) must move her family immediately. However, one of her children is sick. She encounters the rats of NIHM who come up with a creative way to help her move her family. In turn she does them a favor.
