Knowing how to cook is a skill every teen should have by the time they are ready to head off to college. When I left home I knew how to bake but I was terrified of cooking meat. Learning how to cook on my own was not a very fun way to learn. So get in the kitchen with your kids and have some fun! Here are a few easy meals for teens to make!

Below are a few suggestions to get your teen going in the kitchen. I didn’t add any chicken because it can be a little more intimidating to cook. As they get more comfortable in the kitchen they can branch out.
Put them in charge of dinner once a week with these easy meals for teens. By the time they leave for college they will be super comfortable in the kitchen.
Scrambled Eggs – scrambled eggs are a great base to start with.
Breakfast Burrito – take your scrambled eggs and by add bacon or sausage, cheese, and some veggies. Put it all in a flour tortilla. YUM!
Hash Browns – Shred up some potatoes and put them in a pan with a little olive oil and spices. Or buy the frozen kind.
Coffee Cake – My kids are always more willing to bake then cook! Coffee cake is one of their favorites.
Muffins – This is another easy one! You can buy mixes from the store or make your own. I make mine in bulk using this cookbook. The updated version is below.
Here are some items that will help with these easy meals for teens:
Lunch:
Grilled Cheese Sandwich – add some tomato soup for an easy filling meal.
Bagel Sandwich – make an egg in the microwave or on the stove and add it to a toasted bagel with cream cheese, and lunch meat. This is a win with my teens.) on top. Broil it until the cheese melts.
Tuna Melts – same as above but just add tuna and cheese instead of pizza toppings.
Tortilla Wraps – Flour tortillas with any filling you like. Meat and cheese. Leftover chicken, lettuce and bacon with ranch dressing. Hummus and veggies. The possibilities are endless!
Dinner:
Spaghetti – This is a great meal for teens to know how to cook. Have them practice on you!
Baked Fish Filets -Since I don’t like fish but my kids do this was a good one for them to learn! We buy frozen fish filets. Add a little olive oil and some yummy spices and bake 5-7 minutes. Super easy and quick.
Stuffed Potatoes – Totally versatile meal that just requires a little bit of chopping. Bake some potatoes and top with whatever you like best. You can go taco inspired, chili and cheese, veggies…
Salad with Chicken – buy chicken patties and add them to your favorite salad for a little bit of protein. Easy peasy.
Hamburgers – this is actually a pretty quick meal. I add bread crumbs to my hamburger so the patties hold together better. Sprinkle a little salt and pepper on top. Use a broiler pan and cook the patties for about 5 minutes on each side. Cut up whatever you like to go on the burgers.
I’m sure there are many easy meals for teens to make but these will get them started. Add some fruit and a salad and your teen will have a decent meal to put on the table.
